Musculoskeletal Podiatry, also known as MSK, is a specialist area of treatment that looks to assess, diagnose and treat conditions affecting muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and soft tissues of the foot and lower limb.
Pain may be due to structural, functional or previous injury which can lead to problems with your feet and ankles. This pain can have an impact on your everyday activities, ability to exercise and can cause discomfort. Typical conditions include inflammatory conditions, ankle instability, flat feet, shin splints, hypermobility, joint, foot and ankle pain, bunions, Achilles tendinopathy, heel pain, toe deformities etc.
Assessment and diagnosis
- We will assess, diagnose, treat or advise how to help resolve or reduce the pain/loss of function to help you understand and manage your foot condition.
- We will observe your gait and postural alignment which involves checking the joints and movement of your feet and ankles, observing your walking pattern and standing foot posture.
- We will assess your muscle strength and flexibility.
- Younger patients symptoms will be assessed taking into account their age and stage of development – sometimes advice and reassurance may be sufficient.
